During his formative years, Ian attended Westside High School, where he excelled academically, earning membership in the National Honor Society and participating in the Westside Engineering and Geosciences Academy. He graduated in 2018 and went on to attend Stanford University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Product Design in 2022 and a Master of Science in Sustainability Science & Practice in 2023. ​

As a member of the Stanford Cardinal men's gymnastics team from 2019 to 2023, he contributed to four consecutive NCAA team championships.
